The Crown of Aragon

The Crown of Aragon was a medieval confederation of kingdoms and territories in the northeastern Iberian Peninsula, centered around the Kingdom of Aragon. It emerged in the 12th century through dynastic unions and alliances, and its members included Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands, and other regions. It was a significant maritime power with extensive influence across the Mediterranean during the Middle Ages. The Crown of Aragon operated as a political entity with shared institutions, but each territory maintained its own laws and customs. It played a key role in shaping medieval Spain’s political landscape before gradually unifying under the Crown of Spain.
