The Combahee River Collective
The Combahee River Collective was a group of Black feminist activists that emerged in the 1970s in the United States. They focused on the intersection of race, gender, and sexuality, advocating for the rights of Black women and highlighting how their experiences differ from those of white women and Black men. The Collective is best known for their 1977 statement, which articulated a vision for social justice that addressed both racial and gender oppression. Their work laid the groundwork for intersectionality and continues to influence feminist and civil rights movements today.
