The Baronial System
The Baronial System refers to a hierarchical structure of land ownership and governance that emerged in medieval Europe, particularly in England. At the top was the king, who granted large parcels of land to nobles known as barons. In exchange for land, barons pledged loyalty, military service, and support to the king. Barons, in turn, could grant parts of their land to lesser nobles, creating a chain of loyalty and obligation. This system helped maintain order and control over territories, but also led to a decentralized form of rule where local barons held significant power within their regions.
