Thai-Burma War

The Thai-Burma War refers to conflicts between Thailand (then Siam) and Britain over border disputes and territorial interests in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Notably, tensions arose as Siam aimed to maintain independence amid British and French colonial expansion in Southeast Asia. The most significant conflict was the Franco-Siamese War (1893), resulting in Siam ceding territory to France. Subsequently, Thailand engaged diplomatically with Britain. These conflicts helped define modern borders, with Thailand remaining largely independent, unlike its neighbors. The war period reflects broader colonial struggles and the effort of Thailand to preserve sovereignty in a colonial-dominated region.
