Théâtre de l'Opprimé
Théâtre de l'Opprimé, or "Theatre of the Oppressed," is a theatrical approach developed by Brazilian director Augusto Boal in the 1970s. It aims to empower marginalized communities by using drama as a tool for social change. Participants—rather than just spectators—actively engage in performances to explore social issues, challenge oppression, and envision alternative solutions. Techniques include “forum theatre,” where audiences can intervene in the performance to suggest different outcomes, fostering dialogue and critical thinking. Ultimately, it seeks to transform the audience from passive observers into active participants in their own liberation and societal improvement.
