Tenochitlan

Tenochtitlan was the capital of the Aztec Empire, located on an island in Lake Texcoco, present-day Mexico City. Founded in 1325, it was known for its impressive architecture, including temples and palaces, and a complex system of canals and causeways for transport. The city was a hub of trade and culture, reflecting the sophistication of the Aztec civilization. Tenochtitlan fell to Spanish conquistadors led by Hernán Cortés in 1521, leading to significant changes in the region, including the eventual rise of modern Mexico City over its ruins.
