Temple of Eridu

The Temple of Eridu is an ancient Mesopotamian ziggurat located in modern-day Iraq, considered one of the earliest known temple complexes built around 5400 BCE. It was dedicated to the god Enki (or Ea), associated with wisdom and water. The structure consisted of layered bricks forming a step-like pyramid, serving as a religious center where ancient inhabitants worshipped and performed rituals to honor their deity. Eridu is often seen as one of the first cities in human history, marking the emergence of organized religion and complex societies in early Mesopotamian civilization.
