Tehcir Law

The Tehcir Law, officially known as the Law on Deportation and Resettlement, was enacted in 1915 by the Ottoman Empire. It authorized the forced relocation of Armenians from their ancestral lands during World War I, primarily aiming to prevent perceived threats and maintain national security. Unfortunately, the implementation led to the displacement, suffering, and deaths of hundreds of thousands of Armenians. Modern historians often view this event as part of the Armenian Genocide. The law's enactment reflects a government effort to control populations during wartime, with profound and tragic consequences for the Armenian community.
