Te Urewera
Te Urewera is a large, forested national park in New Zealand, renowned for its ecological diversity and cultural significance. It was traditionally the land of the Te Urewera Māori, and in 2014, the government granted it a unique legal status, recognizing it as a legal entity with its own rights, similar to a person. This means the forest is protected not just by laws but also by an acknowledgment of its importance to Māori and the environment. Managed jointly by the Crown and Te Urewera Board, it aims to preserve its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and ecological health for future generations.
