TCP SYN Flood
A TCP SYN Flood is a type of cyber attack where a hacker overwhelms a server by quickly sending many connection requests (SYN packets) to it. The server responds to each request, waiting for a final step to establish the connection, but the hacker often doesn't follow through. This overload uses up the server's resources, making it difficult or impossible for legitimate users to connect. It's like flooding a phone line with calls, causing genuine calls to go unanswered. The attack exploits the way computers establish communication, disrupting normal service.
