Taraki government
Nur Muhammad Taraki was a leader of Afghanistan’s communist government starting in 1978. His government aimed to modernize the country but faced strong resistance and internal conflicts. Implementing radical reforms, it struggled to stabilize the nation amid societal upheaval. His leadership was marked by efforts to align Afghanistan with socialist principles, but these changes caused unrest and opposition from traditional groups. Taraki’s government was short-lived; he was overthrown and killed in 1979 during a power struggle, leading to ongoing conflict and foreign intervention that deeply affected Afghanistan’s future stability.
