Tapping Mode

Tapping Mode is a technique used in atomic force microscopy to examine surfaces at a very small scale. In this mode, a tiny probe gently "taps" the surface intermittently, like a drone briefly landing and lifting off. The probe's vibrations change slightly depending on the surface's features, allowing the microscope to create a detailed 3D map without damaging delicate samples. This approach offers high-resolution images while reducing the risk of harm, making it especially useful for studying soft or fragile materials at the microscopic level.
