Tanganyika

Tanganyika was a large region in east Africa that is now part of modern-day Tanzania. During the colonial period, it was a British territory, originally administered separately from nearby areas. In 1964, Tanganyika united with the island of Zanzibar to form the nation of Tanzania. The region is known for its diverse landscapes, including savannas, mountains, and lakes, notably Lake Tanganyika, one of the world's deepest and oldest freshwater lakes. The name "Tanganyika" often refers to both the lake and the historical territory, playing a significant role in the country's history and identity.
