Taliban's takeover (2021)

In 2021, the Taliban rapidly advanced across Afghanistan, capturing key cities and eventually Kabul, the capital, in August. This occurred after the U.S. and NATO forces, who had been fighting there for two decades, announced they would withdraw their troops. With less military presence, the Taliban capitalized on existing political instability and ongoing conflicts, quickly regaining control of much of the country. Their takeover led to the collapse of the Afghan government, sparking concerns about human rights, especially for women and minorities, and prompting a major international emergency to manage the transition and aid displaced people.
