Tây Sơn dynasty

The Tây Sơn Dynasty was a short-lived Vietnamese ruling family that arose in the late 18th century, known for unifying Vietnam during a period of civil chaos. Led initially by the Tây Sơn brothers—Nguyễn Nhạc, Nguyễn Lữ, and Nguyễn Huệ—they overthrew the existing ruling clan and aimed to restore order. Nguyễn Huệ, also called Emperor Quang Trung, was a notable leader who defeated foreign and internal enemies. The Tây Sơn Dynasty lasted from 1778 to 1802, ending when Nguyen Ánh (later Emperor Gia Long) unified Vietnam and established the Nguyen Dynasty. The Tây Sơn era is remembered for its military achievements and efforts at reform.
