Systems of Systems Engineering (SoSE)

Systems of Systems Engineering (SoSE) is a field focused on managing and designing large, complex networks of interconnected systems that work together to achieve broader, often more ambitious objectives. Unlike traditional engineering that concentrates on individual systems, SoSE considers how multiple independent systems—such as transportation networks, communication infrastructures, and defense systems—interact, coordinate, and adapt as a unified entity. The goal is to optimize overall performance, ensure interoperability, and address challenges like complexity, variability, and evolving needs across the entire network.
