Swiss Federal Assembly
The Swiss Federal Assembly is Switzerland’s national legislature, responsible for creating and passing laws. It has two chambers: the National Council, representing the Swiss population with 200 members elected every four years, and the Council of States, representing the 26 cantons with 46 members. Both chambers work together to debate, amend, and approve laws, oversee the federal government, and approve the national budget. The Assembly meets in Bern and plays a key role in Swiss democracy by ensuring government accountability and representing regional interests in the legislative process.
