Swap Space

Swap space is a designated area on your computer's storage (like a hard drive) that acts as an extension of the computer’s RAM (the memory used for active tasks). When the RAM is full, the system temporarily moves some data to swap space to free up memory for other tasks. This allows the computer to continue functioning smoothly, even if the active memory is limited. However, since hard drives are slower than RAM, relying heavily on swap space can cause the system to run more slowly. It essentially helps manage memory more efficiently under high workload conditions.
