Surrender of the Pakistan Eastern Command

The Surrender of the Pakistan Eastern Command occurred in December 1971 during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Pakistan's eastern military forces, which were fighting to maintain control over what is now Bangladesh, faced overwhelming opposition from Bangladeshi fighters and Indian forces. Recognizing the untenable situation, the Pakistani military leadership in the east surrendered to Indian and Bangladeshi troops, effectively ending Pakistan's control over East Pakistan. This event led to the creation of an independent Bangladesh. The surrender marked a significant turning point, resulting in a peaceful separation and the end of Pakistan’s eastern wing as part of the state.
