Surfactant Proteins

Surfactant proteins are specialized molecules in the lungs that help keep the tiny air sacs (alveoli) open and functioning properly. They are part of your lung’s surfactant, a sticky, soap-like substance that reduces surface tension, preventing alveoli from collapsing when you breathe out. These proteins also play a key role in immune defense, helping to identify and fight infections in the lungs.
