Support dogs, often referred to as emotional support animals (ESAs), are specially trained pets that provide comfort and companionship to individuals facing mental health challenges, such as anxiety or depression. Unlike service dogs, which are trained to perform specific tasks for people with disabilities, support dogs do not have specific training requirements. Their primary role is to offer emotional support through their presence. While they do not have public access rights like service dogs, their presence can significantly enhance their owner’s emotional well-being and overall quality of life. Proper documentation may be required for housing or travel purposes.
