
Sunderlal Bahuguna
Sunderlal Bahuguna (1927-2021) was a prominent Indian environmentalist and activist known for his work in the Chipko movement, which began in the 1970s. This grassroots campaign aimed to protect Himalayan forests by encouraging villagers to hug trees, physically preventing them from being cut down. Bahuguna advocated for sustainable development and environmental conservation, highlighting the importance of forests in combating climate change and preserving biodiversity. His efforts raised awareness about ecological issues in India and inspired many to engage in environmental activism. He received recognition for his contributions, including the Gandhi Peace Prize in 2020.
