Sumerian calendar

The Sumerian calendar was an ancient system used by the Sumerians in Mesopotamia to track time based on lunar and solar cycles. It consisted of 12 lunar months, each beginning with the new moon, totaling about 354 days. To align with the solar year of approximately 365 days, they occasionally added an extra month. The calendar was important for agriculture, religious festivals, and civic events, reflecting their understanding of celestial movements and seasonal changes. While not as precise as modern calendars, it served as a practical framework for managing time in their society.
