A sultan is a title used by Muslim rulers, particularly in the Middle East and parts of Asia, signifying authority and sovereignty. Historically, sultans held political and military power over their territories, often combining religious and secular leadership. The title became prominent in the Ottoman Empire, where sultans governed vast lands and played key roles in regional politics. Today, some countries still use the title for monarchs or leaders, but it mainly signifies a ruler's sovereignty within a historical or cultural context.
