Sultanate of Egypt
The Sultanate of Egypt was a medieval Islamic state established in 1517 after the Ottoman Empire defeated the Mamluk Sultanate and took control of Egypt. It was governed by a sultan under Ottoman suzerainty, blending local Egyptian governance with imperial oversight. The sultans managed regional affairs, hosted vibrant cities like Cairo, and played a role in the broader Islamic world. The sultanate lasted until 1805, after which local rulers, notably Muhammad Ali, began to consolidate independent power, leading towards modern Egypt's formation.
