Sugars

Sugars are simple carbohydrates that provide quick energy for the body. They occur naturally in foods like fruits, vegetables, and dairy, and are also added to processed foods for sweetness. Chemically, sugars are made up of small molecules called monosaccharides (like glucose and fructose) and disaccharides (like sucrose, or table sugar). When consumed, sugars are broken down during digestion into glucose, which fuels cells and supports bodily functions. While small amounts of natural sugars can be part of a healthy diet, excessive intake of added sugars may contribute to health issues like weight gain and dental problems.
