subtalar joint instability

Subtalar joint instability occurs when the joint connecting your heel bone (calcaneus) to the ankle bone (talus) becomes loose or damaged, often after an injury. This joint allows your foot to side-to-side and rotational movements. When unstable, the foot may feel wobbly, slip, or roll excessively, making walking or running difficult and increasing the risk of further injuries. Factors include ligament tears, previous sprains, or structural issues. Treatment can involve rest, physical therapy, or, in some cases, surgery to restore stability and prevent ongoing problems.
