Strombolian Eruption
A Strombolian eruption is a type of volcanic activity characterized by regular, moderate bursts of lava and ash. These eruptions occur when magma rises through the volcano’s conduit, accumulating gases that build pressure. When the pressure becomes too great, the gases rapidly escape, sending out explosive bursts of incandescent lava fragments, ash, and volcanic gases into the air. These eruptions tend to be relatively short, frequent, and less destructive than larger eruptions, creating distinctive, small eruptive columns and often forming surprisingly symmetrical, scoria-covered cones.
