Strafford's Trials

Strafford’s Trials refer to the legal proceedings against Thomas Wentworth, the Earl of Strafford, in 1641-1642. He was charged with supporting King Charles I's policies and asserting too much authority, which alarmed Parliament. Parliament accused him of high treason for actions seen as tyranny, such as using his power to weaken parliamentary influence. Despite his lengthy defense, he was ultimately found guilty and executed. The trials highlight the intense conflict between the monarchy and Parliament leading up to the English Civil War, illustrating the struggle over governmental authority and individual rights.
