Statoconia

Statoconia are tiny calcium carbonate particles found within the utricle and saccule of the inner ear, components of the vestibular system responsible for sensing gravity and linear movements. They attach to hair cells, and when your head changes position or accelerates, gravity causes these particles to shift slightly. This movement stimulates the hair cells, sending signals to your brain to help determine your head’s position and maintain balance. Think of statoconia as small weightstones that assist in detecting motion and orientation, enabling you to stay upright and coordinated.
