Statin therapy
Statin therapy involves taking medications called statins to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. High cholesterol can lead to the buildup of fatty deposits in arteries, increasing the risk of heart disease and strokes. Statins work by blocking a substance in the liver that helps produce cholesterol, thereby reducing bad cholesterol (LDL) and sometimes raising good cholesterol (HDL). They are commonly prescribed for people at risk of cardiovascular problems, especially those with high cholesterol, diabetes, or existing heart disease. While effective, statins may have side effects, so they should be used under medical supervision.
