Stapedectomy
A stapedectomy is a surgical procedure to improve hearing loss caused by otosclerosis, a condition where abnormal bone growth impairs the movement of the tiny middle ear bone called the stapes. During the procedure, the surgeon removes or bypasses the affected stapes bone and replaces it with a small prosthesis, restoring sound transmission to the inner ear. This operation usually results in better hearing and a significant reduction in ear-related symptoms. It is typically performed under local or general anesthesia by an experienced ENT surgeon.
