Stages of Change Model
The Stages of Change Model describes the process individuals go through when modifying behavior. It includes five stages: Precontemplation (not considering change), Contemplation (thinking about change), Preparation (planning to change soon), Action (actively making changes), and Maintenance (sustaining new behavior). Recognizing which stage someone is in helps tailor support and strategies, increasing the likelihood of successful change. This model emphasizes that change is a gradual process, often involving movement back and forth between stages before lasting change occurs.
