St. Matthew
St. Matthew, also known as Matthew the Apostle, was one of Jesus' twelve closest followers and a prominent early Christian leader. Traditionally believed to be a tax collector before joining Jesus, he authored the Gospel of Matthew, one of the four main accounts of Jesus’ life and teachings. His writings emphasize Jesus as the Messiah foretold in Jewish scripture and highlight themes of righteousness and fulfillment of prophecy. Matthew’s work bridges Jewish traditions and Christian faith, making it an essential text for understanding Jesus’ ministry and the origins of Christianity.
