spinal column
The spinal column, or spine, is a structured series of bones called vertebrae that run from the base of your skull down to your lower back. It provides support for your head and torso, allows for flexible movement, and protects the spinal cord—a vital bundle of nerves transmitting signals between your brain and body. The spine is divided into regions: cervical (neck), thoracic (upper back), lumbar (lower back), sacral, and coccygeal (tailbone). It also features discs that act as cushion pads between vertebrae, aiding in shock absorption and flexibility.
