sperm cells

Sperm cells are tiny, specialized reproductive cells produced by males. They are designed to fertilize a female’s egg to create a pregnancy. Structurally, sperm have a head containing genetic material (DNA), a midsection packed with energy-producing mitochondria, and a long tail called a flagellum that helps them swim. Each sperm is highly motile, able to navigate through reproductive fluids to reach and penetrate the egg. They are essential for human reproduction, carrying half of the genetic information necessary to form a new individual.
