Special Tribunal for Lebanon
The Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is an international court established to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 2005. Formed by the United Nations and Lebanon, the STL aimed to ensure justice by addressing the complex political and security issues surrounding the case. It is notable for being the first tribunal to use evidence derived from intercepted phone calls in its proceedings. The STL operates under Lebanese law but follows international legal standards, focusing on accountability and the rule of law in Lebanon and the broader region.
