Space-Based Solar Power
Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP) refers to the concept of collecting solar energy in space and transmitting it to Earth. Solar panels placed on satellites would capture sunlight, which is abundant and unimpeded by the atmosphere. This energy could then be converted into microwaves or lasers and beamed down to receiving stations on Earth. The primary benefits include continuous energy collection, unaffected by weather or time of day. SBSP has the potential to provide a clean, renewable energy source, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and helping to mitigate climate change. However, technical and economic challenges remain significant hurdles.
