Soviet Union (Russia)

The Soviet Union, officially the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), was a federation of multiple republics dominated by Russia, existing from 1922 to 1991. It was a single-party state based on communist ideology, where the government controlled the economy, industries, and many aspects of daily life. The USSR was a major political and military power, rivaling the United States during the Cold War. It aimed to create a classless society, but in practice, was characterized by centralized authority, state censorship, and political repression. After decades of economic challenges and political reforms, it dissolved in 1991, leading to the independence of Russia and other republics.
