Southern Kingdom
The Southern Kingdom, also known as Judah, was one of the two divisions of the ancient Kingdom of Israel after its split around 930 BCE. It comprised the tribes of Judah and Benjamin, with Jerusalem as its capital. The Northern Kingdom, called Israel, fell to Assyria in 722 BCE, while Judah lasted until it was conquered by Babylon in 586 BCE. The Southern Kingdom is notable for its lineage of kings, including David and Solomon, and it is significant in Jewish history for the preservation of religious traditions and texts during this turbulent period.
