Southern Agrarians

The Southern Agrarians were a group of writers and intellectuals in the 1920s and 1930s who valued traditional Southern rural life and agriculture. They believed that the South's identity and culture were rooted in its agrarian roots, emphasizing community, agriculture, and regional traditions over urbanization and industrial growth. They aimed to preserve Southern values and criticize rapid modernization, which they thought threatened the region’s social fabric. Their most famous work is the 1930 collection "I'll Take My Stand," reflecting their views on the importance of maintaining Southern rural heritage.
