Southeast Asia Treaty Organization

The Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) was a regional alliance formed in 1954 to promote collective defense and prevent the spread of communism in Southeast Asia during the Cold War. It included countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and several Southeast Asian nations. SEATO aimed to enhance military cooperation and provide security to its member countries. However, it struggled with effectiveness due to differing national interests and was ultimately dissolved in 1977, as the geopolitical landscape in the region changed and the threat of communism diminished.
