South Vietnamese Government

The South Vietnamese Government was the leadership of South Vietnam from 1955 to 1975, established to oppose communist North Vietnam. It was supported by the United States and other allies, aiming to promote democracy and economic development. The government was led by presidents like Ngo Dinh Diem and others who tried to build a separate, non-communist state amid political instability and conflict. Despite efforts, it struggled with corruption and internal disagreements, ultimately collapsing when North Vietnam conquered Saigon in 1975, leading to the reunification of Vietnam under communist control.
