South Sudan Independence

South Sudan gained independence from Sudan on July 9, 2011, after decades of conflict largely driven by ethnic, religious, and political differences. The long civil war ended with the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement, which allowed South Sudan to hold a referendum. In the vote, most South Sudanese chose independence, leading to the country's formal separation. This marked the creation of Africa’s newest nation, intended to provide self-determination for its diverse population. However, independence also brought challenges, including internal conflicts and development needs, as South Sudan seeks stability and growth.
