South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission
The South African reconciliation-commission">Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was established in 1995 after the end of apartheid to address human rights abuses that occurred between 1960 and 1994. Its goal was to promote healing and unity by uncovering the truth about past atrocities, allowing victims to tell their stories, and providing perpetrators a chance to confess in exchange for amnesty. Led by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the TRC aimed to foster national reconciliation, educate the public about the injustices of apartheid, and create a historical record to prevent future abuses.
