Sostratus of Cnidus

Sostratus of Cnidus was an ancient Greek architect and engineer from the 3rd century BCE. He is best known for constructing the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, a giant statue of the sun god Helios. Interestingly, he also secretly inscribed his name on the statue to claim credit, but the inscription was later covered up or removed to avoid conflict with the Rhodians. Sostratus was highly skilled in engineering and sculpture, contributing significantly to Greek architecture and monumental art during his time.
