Sorption pump
A sorption pump is a device used to create a very high vacuum by capturing gas molecules onto a solid surface. It works through a process called sorption, where gases adhere either physically (physisorption) or chemically (chemisorption). When the pump's surface is cooled or activated, it attracts and holds gas molecules, removing them from the surrounding space. This method is often preferred in scientific or industrial settings requiring extremely low pressures, such as in particle accelerators or vacuum chambers, because it provides a clean, efficient, and maintenance-free way to achieve and maintain high vacuum conditions.
