somatic cells

Somatic cells are all the body's cells that are not involved in reproduction. They make up tissues like skin, muscles, and organs, and contain a complete set of genetic material (DNA). In humans, each somatic cell typically has 46 chromosomes, organized in pairs, carrying genetic information that determines traits and functions. These cells divide through a process called mitosis, allowing the body to grow, repair damaged tissues, and replace old cells. Unlike reproductive cells (sperm and eggs), somatic cells do not directly contribute to the creation of offspring.
