Sociological Perspectives on Race
Sociological perspectives on race examine how society constructs and understands racial categories. The three main perspectives are functionalism, which views race as a way to maintain social order; conflict theory, which highlights the power struggles and inequalities between racial groups; and symbolic interactionism, which focuses on everyday interactions and the meanings people attach to race. These perspectives help us understand how race shapes identities, influences relationships, and impacts opportunities in society. By studying race through these lenses, we can better address issues of racism and inequality.
