The Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists, commonly known as the Boxers, was a Chinese secret organization active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They aimed to resist foreign influence, especially Western and Japanese presence, and sought to restore Chinese sovereignty. They believed in traditional martial arts and martial spirit, often practicing physical combat and protective rituals. The group gained prominence during the Boxer Rebellion (1899-1901), attacking foreign nationals and Chinese Christians. Their activities prompted an international military intervention to suppress the uprising, highlighting their role in a pivotal moment of Chinese resistance to foreign domination.
